Royal Mail To Try Sunday Service

Earlier today it was announced that Royal Mail is to trial a Sunday delivery service for parcels in order to deal with the increasing demand for goods ordered online.

The plan is to open up somewhere in the region of 100 offices on a Sunday afternoon for customers that want to pick up any items that have been ordered online.

The decision as to which offices will be opened has been based upon those that have the highest parcel volumes across the UK.

In addition to this, it was also announced that the Royal Mail would also try out parcel deliveries to addresses along the M25 motorway.

‘Changing market’

Royal Mail’s chief executive Moya Greene said, “Through these new Sunday services we are exploring ways to improve our flexibility and provide more options for people to receive items they have ordered online,”

“The support of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) has enabled us to respond quickly to a changing market, ” she added.

CWU deputy general secretary Dave Ward said: “Royal Mail’s announcement about expanding delivery and collection services to seven-days-a-week is an exciting innovation which we welcome.

“We have worked closely with Royal Mail to develop how best we can go forward to grow the company together and improve the services for customers.”

Working alongside Royal Mail, Parcel force Worldwide, which often deals with larger, heavier and more valuable parcels, will also offer a Sunday service to retailers from June. However, in order for customers to benefit from this, the decision will be made by the retailers.
