Threat of Royal Mail Strikes Lessens
Following negotiations conducted by mediator Lynette Harris, it is now increasingly unlikely that Royal Mail workers will be striking over the Christmas period.
Royal Mail has released a report of recommendations by Harris and has stated that the process has enabled both parties to “better understand their respective positions”. These developments mark a significant move away from strike action, and a step in the direction of a positive resolution.
Royal Mail workers, represented by the Communications Workers Union (CWU) are currently unhappy with the state of pensions, pay and working hours and have been threatening strikes in order to force a change.
In October the union voted overwhelmingly in favour of conducting strikes but were prevented from holding them. This was due to Royal Mail winning a High Court injunction to block the industrial action, as they claimed it was “unlawful”. The current negotiations mark the next stage in proceedings as both parties look for a resolution.
This is a very positive development.
It is now highly unlikely Royal Mail workers will strike so businesses can freely conduct direct mail campaigns without fears of disruption.
The Christmas and New Year period is an excellent time for sending direct mail, with a wide range of creative options available that offer a fantastic return on investment (ROI).
